Yes!!!! We looooooove this time of year! The leaves are mostly on the ground and the morning sun brings the best light of the whole year! We are still harvesting veggies from the big fields, even after that cold plunge. We prepped as much as we could the previous week knowing that we would be in for some cold temps and snow. And it looks like all our hard work paid off as much of the crops did just fine out in the weather. Of course it helped that the ground temperature was still so warm. The plant's warm roots, insulated from the cold by the snow, helped them pull through.
Sooooo... that means we still have lots of greens and even broccoli for this week's share!! We plan to have broccoli as late as possible when we plan for the season almost a year in advance, but predicting the weather for the next Fall can be incredibly difficult. So when it works out we get pretty stoked about it ;)
This week's Winter Share will include carrots, beets, celery root, potatoes, sweet potatoes, squashes, broccoli, turnips, radishes, onions, fennel, radicchio, kohlrabi, bunched greens, kale, spinach, lettuce, brussels sprouts, butternut, and garlic! Plus we will have pears and apples from local orchards
