Summer Share Week #9 of 20- 8/5+8/7: Yikes

Yikes! Things get so very busy during the height of the season. And this year we are even more busy with non-stop irrigation running. We are having to more water lines, 'sprinklers', valves, generators constantly (and of course the system needs repairing every so often), plus also doing everything we always have to do. For the month of July we got a half an inch of rain. Average is 4 inches!! That makes a huge difference (as you probably saw in the sweet corn).

Buuuuutttt, good thing we are killing it! There are some flubs, but we can't be more happy with the season so far. Plus the flowers are amazing right now, and the next planting of beans should be in soon.

Balancing life with farming in the season is insanely difficult. Burn out and exhaustion are always hanging around. Sometimes time off only comes in the form of one afternoon in a week while we are also working 12 hour days. But now that we are in August (sometimes dubber 'Slaugust'), we can see the Fall crops growing and we are already thinking about what September will bring.

This week's share will include watermelon!!, new potatoes, squashes, cucumbers, carrots, beets, salad turnips, fresh onions, cabbage, sweet peppers, eggplant, tomatoes, head lettuce, and sweet corn.

The fruit share will include blueberries, peaches, apricots, and plums.

Plus Savage Wheat will be here again
