**REMINDER ** We are signing up current members for the Winter Share, please bring your payment with your next share pick up ($280)
September arrived and it seems like a switch was flipped. The colors outside are changing along with the light of the day. We also keep getting days that are too warm spotted with days in the high 60 degrees (which are glimpses into what the temp should actually be right now).
Last week's break was really needed in hindsight and we are thankful we got one. We harvested a lot of the Fall and Winter squashes, more potatoes and carrots, as well as the crops we harvest weekly for maintenance.
Another name for this time of year is Bin Season or Harvest Season. Bin season because the harvests are larger now, so we need larger bins and more of them, to harvest everything. Harvest Season because that's the majority of what we are now doing- harvesting! The weeds and bugs are (hopefully) slowing down, so now we have about 30 days before the average first frost of the Fall.
The changes are showing up in the share this week as well (duh ;) This week's share will include: potatoes, summer squashes, acorn, spaghetti, and mini kabocha squashes, carrots, beets, cabbage, onions, peppers, eggplant, kale, kohlrabi, salad radishes, bok choy, celery, and tomatoes.
The fruit share will include grapes, peaches, plums, and nectarines
