Entering Mother's Day weekend and we have yet to really dry out with all this rain. It can be demoralizing this time of year when we are full of energy and optimism! But as I warned in last week's blog, we are now starting to fall behind in our field schedule due to the soggy Spring we have been having. It's not worrying, but it does put pressure on the future to get more done in less time. But we are all over all the inside work we need to do. The tunnel tomatoes are already in and we've been able to stay on top of the weeds in the tunnels as well. We have not been able to weed much in the big fields as any dry time we get we are prepping fields and transplanting.
We are approaching the average 'last frost date' for our area...May 10th. But it looks like it might frost Monday night, the 11th. Plus, I wouldn't put it past this crazy weather to drop another frost a bit later, but let's hope not. We are already hardening off our summer squashes, cucumbers, and eggplant to get transplanted as soon as we can, but those crops cannot handle a frost. So it is a 'hurry up and wait' situation we are in.
But here we are, really gaining steam here in the Spring Share. This week's share will include radishes, salad turnips, beet greens, bunched greens, scallions, green garlic, herbs, bok choy, spinach, and lettuce mix.
We are hoping our asparagus will come in soon. It got zapped by the last frost, so hopefully we will have some next week!
