GREENHOUSE/HIGHTUNNEL PRODUCTION HEAD

Greenhouse and High Tunnel Production Head is in charge of the care and management of the greenhouse and high tunnels. They are in charge of carrying out the seed and tunnel plans as laid out by farm managers. The Greenhouse Head will also be expected to work along with the crew during regular field work and harvest as needed.​

The typical schedule during the height of the season is Monday through Thursday and maybe a Saturday here and there from July through September. The workday at the height of the season starts at 7:30am. Work days are shorter in less busy times of year.

DESCRIPTION

TASKS

Tasks include: Greenhouse maintenance and inventory, seeding by hand and with the vacuum seeder in cell trays following the seed plan, water and irrigation management, managing other employees assisting in the tasks, bed prep by hand in the tunnels, seeding with a push seeder following the high tunnel field plan, pest management, trellising and pruning, transplanting, row cover management, grafting, and management of market garden beds at the homestead.

QUALIFICATIONS

Farming experience is preferred. It is extremely important to be detail oriented and clean in your work space. Attention to detail is a must. Knowledge of vegetable varieties and families is helpful as well as the ability to recognize plants by their cotyledons. However, if this is something you would love to learn from us and continue improving with us for multiple seasons we encourage you to also apply. We are ultimately looking for someone to take ownership in this work.

The farm is looking for motivated, hardworking individuals who have always worked well with others. You must be reliable and able to work in all weather conditions. A valid driver's license is required.

​The farm work environment is uptempo and requires the physical capability to contribute daily in a rigorous, fast paced setting. Farm work is incredibly rewarding, yet very physically demanding. Please consider this commitment before applying.

COMPENSATION

Pay  starts at $14.50/ hr. You must have real previous farm experience to apply for this position

 

Start date is dependent on your availability, but should be April 1st at the latest. End date is flexible as well, but we would like for you to stay through the heavy harvests and fall seeding dates in the fall (through the end of September or October).
