Summer Share #3 of 20- 6/21+6/23: The Start of Summerby Erin and Steve on 06/18/22
The longest day of the year is Tuesday this week. It marks the start of Summer and also marks the day I can officially stop complaining about how hot any given day gets. I always worry about the Spring crops getting a proper Spring. And although this last week was hot and the winds were honestly a bit scary, this weekend's chilly weather is a good end to Spring and next week's predicted 80 degree days are a welcome sight. We already have shade cloth in place to protect the plants that need protection from the heat and sun, so we are ready to goooooo.
Which means the summer squashes are ready! They love warm weather, and so do our peppers, eggplants, and tomatoes. So as we let go of the last of the broccoli we are excited for good growing conditions for our Summer crops.
And now since the longest day will be here and gone, I can also stop laughing at myself for going to bed before the sun goes down ;)
This week's share will include: broccoli, summer squashes, radishes, salad turnips, bok choy, fennel, kolrabi, beets, garlic scapes, head lettuce, spinach, and bunched greens.
The Fruit Share will not start until the week of the 4th of July, but that will be here soon enough!
